How the Round of 16 bracket works
The Round of 16 is the second knockout stage of the expanded 48-team World Cup: eight single-elimination ties, numbered Match 89 to Match 96, played from July 4 to July 7, 2026. Level ties go to extra time and then penalties — there are no replays. The draw is split into two halves that only meet in the final on July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium.
The bracket rails above show the quarter-final pairings: the winners of Matches 89 and 90 meet on one side, the winners of 91 and 92 on the other side of the left half; on the right half, the winners of 93 and 94 pair off, as do the winners of 95 and 96. The quarter-finals follow on July 9–11, the semi-finals on July 14–15.
The ties, match by match
Match 89 — Paraguay vs France (July 4, 5 p.m. ET, Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia). Paraguay knocked out Germany on penalties in the Round of 32; France swept past Sweden 3–0.
Match 90 — Canada vs Morocco (July 4, 1 p.m. ET, NRG Stadium, Houston). Co-hosts Canada edged South Africa 1–0; Morocco beat the Netherlands in a shootout.
Match 91 — Brazil vs Norway (July 5, 4 p.m. ET, MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford). Brazil beat Japan 2–1; Norway saw off Ivory Coast by the same score.
Match 92 — Mexico vs England (July 5, 8 p.m. ET, Estadio Azteca, Mexico City). Co-hosts Mexico return to the Azteca after beating Ecuador 2–0 there; England beat DR Congo 2–1.
Match 93 — Portugal vs Spain (July 6, 3 p.m. ET, AT&T Stadium, Arlington). An Iberian derby: Portugal edged Croatia 2–1 in Toronto; Spain swept Austria 3–0 in Los Angeles.
Match 94 — United States vs Belgium (July 6, 8 p.m. ET, Lumen Field, Seattle). The USMNT beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2–0 in Santa Clara; Belgium survived a five-goal thriller against Senegal.
Match 95 (July 7, 12 p.m. ET, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta). The winners of Argentina vs Cape Verde and Australia vs Egypt meet here.
Match 96 (July 7, 4 p.m. ET, BC Place, Vancouver). Switzerland, 2–0 winners over Algeria in the same stadium, await the winner of Colombia vs Ghana.
